Remembrance's first customer for the evening had come a long way. From another kingdom in fact.
"I'll just take a little off your neck back here."
Samuel could guess why.
Samuel felt helpless watching the foreign man look down his wife's dress.
And thus Samuel felt he got what he deserved.
Perhaps Remembrance would be closing early tonight.
Samuel's peasants seemed more than ready to go home anyway.
"Just look at what your wife did to me!"
Oh no. Here it comes.
Samuel stared at the man.
Then he just couldn't resist.
"This is what you asked her to do, right?"
"I look like a bearded woman!"
"Next."
"I'm not sure..."
Poor Shamus.
"I want my money back.""I'll just take a little off your neck back here."
"And I will get your hair out of your face Shamus."
Rememberance went straight to work on her peasant's hair.
"I thank ye much. I thinks the missus will be pleased."
A moment later Shamus was back to his serious expression, but it was clear even to Samuel that the man was pleased with his new look. Samuel could hardly tell the difference. Perhaps Rememberance knew what she was doing afterall.
"I must look good for the Sultan."
"Am I the fairest in the harem now?"
"Your Heighness....perhaps you should see for yourself."
Oh yes, it is going to be a long night.
I'm sure Remembrance will get better with practice. Maggie and Shamus do look good.
ReplyDeleteI think Samuel could stand to have a little more faith in his wife. I mean, with the times, I guess he gets credit for not insisting that she drops her business altogether, but he could be more supportive.
Samuel is a bit worried about the unhappy customers, but he bites his tounge because he likes a woman who earns $. He's still a medieval man....but at least he was on his wife's side when she was thrown in the dungeon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Van, glad to have a new reader.
